Our pick for Best Indie Game 🎮 (and more motion design insights)

Hello, and welcome! 😊

I hope November is treating you well so far. This month, I’m excited to share a mix of insights and tips from the studio — from an emotional deep dive into a standout game to new design tools and tricks we’ve been exploring.

Here’s what’s inside:

Neva, an indie game with precious visuals and animation

Have you seen Neva? Conrad Roset’s latest game is a beautiful example of how animation and sound can drive emotional storytelling. While the UI is minimal, the delicate, thoughtful animations—reminiscent of styles from studios like Buck or Giant Ant—bring each scene to life. Every movement, from the subtle gestures of the characters to the flowing environmental animations, deepens the player's emotional connection to the story. Coupled with a haunting, atmospheric audio design, Neva pulls players into its world, creating a profound, immersive experience. For anyone interested in conveying emotion through animation and sound, Neva is an inspiring case study.

Spline: a tool like no other

3D software has been around for ages. It used to be expensive and difficult to learn, creating a high entry barrier. But recently, with Blender thriving, more and more people have started learning modeling, animation, and other 3D-related crafts.

At the studio, we've been particularly interested in Spline, a Figma-like 3D software designed for interactive motion. One of my favorite things about it is the abundance of short tutorials available on YouTube, which make it easy to achieve incredible results in a short amount of time.

Here's one of my early explorations.

The science behind checkmark animations

Want to create a real sense of achievement in your game or app? A simple animation can trigger a dopamine rush, leaving users feeling great and inspired to keep pursuing their goals.

Check out this article on how we used checkmark animations to motivate users to stick to their training routines.
